No way to protect ourselves?

This is kind of scary...we really have no control over protecting our identity. The recent problem ChoicePoint had with hackers breaking into their system, points out how big this problem is. Unless we can live without ever giving our information to anyone under any circumstances, we cannot prevent others from stealing our identities.

Let's face it, even if you only use cash and store it in your mattress; treat all your own medical problems; work for yourself; find a bat-free cave to live in; and basically live life as the "uni-bomber"(finally tracked him down) did, you may become a victim of this crime.

We can lower the chances by following some of these tips.

ChoicePoint, Inc., one of the nation's largest collectors of consumer information, has notified over 145,000 Americans of a system security breach and possible identity theft. NPR's Madeleine Brand talks with computer-security consultant Mark Rasch about the incident.
