Is the Bush Palin Rift Merely Another Disinformation Scheme?

Flashback to 1933 and you will find that the establishment conservatives did not embrace Hitler as one of their own. They thought he was a low-class, loose canon, much like the Bush family sees Sarah Palin.

Nevertheless; when Hitler came to power, the establishment, at the time, found his extreme nationalism, racism, antidemocratic positions and his drive to revive Germany’s great power status conformable to their agenda. In other words, despite Hitler's colloquialism and bombast, he had potential as a tool or weapon that would prove effective in destroying the emancipatory spirit, so pronounced in Weimar German culture.

Now, Palin, or course, is not Hitler...hopefully; however, there is no doubt that she - like Hitler was to the German elite -  may just provide a certain usefulness to the current ruling class if she were to come to, let's say, assume the presidency in 2012.

The bottom line is that the elite comprehend the importance of cohesion within the structure of their power. There is an understanding amongst the ruling class, that in order to remain in power they must work together and abide by the rule of their law, minimizing conflict as much as possible. So, you can be sure that the Bush/Palin dustup is little more than realpolitik.

Does President Obama Have the Power to Overcome?

Source: Congressional Quarterly

There is no doubt that the Republicans - the "Party of No" (jobs, health care, democracy, justice, fair play, ect.) - are counting on President Obama to take the fall. They're banking on his failure because they know what a disaster he inherited.

White men scapegoating the 'black man'? What else is new? Even white supremacists endorsed President Obama after they saw gains in the number of visitors to their Neo-Nazi, skinhead and segregationist web sites, not to mention an escalation in membership, since the previous senator from Illinois secured the Democratic nomination. These groups saw opportunity, and viewed his candidacy/presidency as a recruiting tool and a vehicle further polarize America along racial lines.

"One person put it this way: Obama for president paves the way for David Duke as president. This is finally going to make whites begin to realize it's a necessity to stick up for their own heritage, and that's going to make them turn to people like me. We're the next logical step." - David Duke
"If we need someone to take the fall because of our illicit profiteering, greed, lies, illegal unconstitutional practices, torture and corruption we put one of them in charge for awhile. Do you even think for one second we would ever let a black become president in a normal climate, hell no! This guy is going to get everything thrown at him. [...] When George W Bush leaves office, he will be hailed a hero by the American people and Republican guard. Obama will then be placed into office to take the can for 'dubya's' horrific mistakes. We don't want any part of this mess and we will allow the black guy to take the heat and be back for the 2012 election with Sarah Palin. That is if America is still around by then." John Thompson, a senior GOP representative
In other words, the timing of the Obama presidency couldn't be better as far as "white privilege" goes, and the neo-conservative's agenda to facilitate, we, the people's race to the bottom. Letting the black guy take the fall will give the neocons time to regroup and pave the way for what they hope will result in a "Palin" victory.

Nevertheless, President Obama may surprise those counting on his failure. According to a Congressional Quarterly study, Obama's Winning Streak On Hill is Unprecedented and he "did better even than legendary arm-twister Lyndon Johnson in winning congressional votes on issues where he took a position".

Although, all by itself, the results of this study do not offer a comprehensive view of Obama's "success". Aside from the Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, Obama's careful selection of issues, and his willingness to negotiate and to compromise, which lead to countless concessions, this study also fails to illuminate the substance of these "successes" and how closely they align with his goals and what he promised to achieve.

Having said that, there is no doubt President Obama has a strategy, and part of his plan of action may be that he wanted to demonstrate his bipartisanship, and that he's capable of getting things done. Now, that he's achieved this, maybe we'll start to see him take on a more aggressive agenda and facilitate real change.

Did Bush Set Precedent For the Palin Administration?

I posted this back in early December, however since then, President Obama has made it clear he will not pursue the crimes of the Bush administration when he said, "I don't believe that anybody is above the law," he responded, but "we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards."

If that's true, than why bother investigating any crime? President Obama, more than anything else, reestablish the "rule of law" as that is what makes this country great. Ignoring the Bush Administration's blatant disregard for the law sends the opposite message...that as long as you are rich enough, powerful enough...the law does not apply to you.

Barack Obama may not choose to indulge in the dangerous legal precedent the Bush administration has set, however, unless that legal precedent is overturned, it's very likely, that a President, like, let's say, Sarah Palin, will cite George W. in an attempt to push her agenda forward.

More than three decades ago, David Frost asked Nixon to respond to the following:

"So what in a sense, you're saying is that there are certain situations, and the Huston Plan or that part of it was one of them, where the president can decide that it's in the best interests of the nation or something, and do something illegal."

Nixon: "Well, when the president does it that means that it is not illegal."

23-years later, we emerge from an imperial presidency - no doubt, inspired by former President Nixon's statement, 31-years ago, that he is above the law. If 13 words from an impeached president, who resigned in disgrace, can bring on eight years of a president who declares himself immune from the "rule of law"...imagine what might foment in the future if we allow the precedent of illegal wire-tapping, suspension of habeas corpus, and systematically justifying torture as legal dogma, to stand.

Scott Horton, a New York attorney specializing in international law and human rights, who wrote the cover story in the latest issue of Harper's Magazine, " Justice After Bush: Prosecuting an Outlaw Administration" believes a presidential commission of inquiry would be the swift, clear way to proceed. Normally, the justice system conducts such investigations, however as Horton points out, the justice department itself is the crime scene in this case.

President Bush is doing as much damage as he can on his way out. These are not the actions of a man who will redeem himself - if that's even possible - in the future. However, whether President Bush repents or not is not the issue. If it were, we could afford to let him off the hook, and concentrate on repairing what his administration destroyed, however, this goes far beyond what President Bush, the individual deserves or doesn't deserve and has everything to do with
renewing our nation's commitment to the rule of law.

On June 10, 2008 Congressmen Dennis Kucinich and Robert Wexler cosponsored 35 articles of impeachment for indicting George Bush. Included in the list of impeachable offenses:

  • Authorization and encouragement of torture as official policy
  • Fabrications about Iraq’s nuclear weapons
  • Lies about Iraq’s connections to al Qaeda
  • Retaliation against those who tried to tell the truth
  • Direct responsibility for extraordinary rendition
  • Illegal detention of U.S. citizens and foreign captives (including the imprisonment of children)
  • Warrantless wiretapping
  • Failure to protect the U.S. by heeding pre-9/11 warnings
  • Failure to protect soldiers in Iraq with proper armor
  • Failure to protect the residents of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina
  • Instructing subordinates to disregard congressional subpoenas
  • 1,100 signing statements releasing him from carrying out even those laws passed during his own administration.

Caroline the Alaskan Broadcaster Says Palin is Major Disaster and Such an Embarrassment

Who is Caroline the Broadcaster? Well, she is just another "Joe, the Plumber" without the credibility issue. She called into the radio show, On Point: How to Fix the Economy, to comment on the responsibility of all of us, (I totally agree with what she has to say...another reason I'm posting this) but because she lived and worked broadcasting in Alaska for 40 years. host Tom Ashbrook asked her about what she thought of Sarah Palin.

Interpret the following portion of the transcript from that show for what it is, an opinion from someone who sounds as "trustworthy" as anyone can sound from a 2-minute excerpt of conversation.

Caroline: ...great discussion, gentlemen. I want to go back to the discussion about the responsibility of everyone of us. I've been watching all of this since the early 1950s. I remember the one President who asked for sacrifice was Jimmy Carter, and then he got kicked out quickly enough. When peoople are so self-absorbed, when it doesn't hurt them, than they don't care what goes on, they don't care if the blue collar jobs in the textile industry...they care whenever it's their white collar jobs that get exported to very well educated countries like India and so forth, that's when they care. So, until this hurts, and it hurts enough people, we will let it go...we'll have the cheerleaders out there treating us like infantile 2-year olds in the sandbox. We will only care for ourselves.

Tom Ashbrook: Well, it hurts right now, Caroline. Who are you thinking might lead us out this pain?

Caroline from Alaska: I think it will be people who are honest, who will be honest with us, who will go after the people who broke the law (the problem with that is there is no law to break) committed fraud. Now, again fraud is sometimes very hard to prove and if you don't want people punished than you don't put enough regulators and prosecutors in place to do it. It is like a giant pile of spaghetti...trying to find one end that's the cause. It's impossible.

Tom Ashbrook: You're from Alaska. What about your Governor there, Caroline? ...Sarah Palin? What about the cut of her jib on all of this?

Caroline from Alaska: I've lived there for 40-years and I've worked in broadcasting. This person is a major disaster and such an embarrassment to our state.

Tom Ashbrook: Why?

Caroline from Alaska: Take if from there. Do not...Don't even consider her as an expert in...

Tom Ashbrook: Why? She's very popular in Alaska, we read. 80% popularity...that's through the roof.

Caroline from Alaska: That's what's the matter with this nation. If you have enough of a cheering squad and you have enough lobbyists that are buying enough politicians... and they get to write all the rules... and nobody cares until it hits them in the face, then you are going to have people like that riding into prominence. It's marketing. And that's all that we've been driven on for the last 40 to 50 years. We haven't had a major hurt in this country since WWII, and I hate to think that we're going to get to that, but that may be what's necessary before people are going to realize we are all a community. And, the kids who are in schools that are lousy, you better not take an attitude, we need a permanent underclass to fight our wars. You are going to take the attitude, they're geniuses out there...we don't know where they are, we don't know what color or sex they are. We have to give everybody an opportunity and we've not been doing that for a very long time.

Prior to "Caroline the Alaskan Broadcaster", Ed, who identified himself as,"I'm Another Average Working Joe" phoned in to ask about executive accountability. If "Joe" is the average guy, who is the female counterpart?

Dangerous Rhetoric May Provide Answers to the Wrong People.

John McCain poses the rhetorical question, "Who is the real Barack Obama?". Rhetorical, because Sarah Palin eagerly provides the answer...he is a terrorist! What else could Sarah Palin mean when she accuses Obama of "palling around with terrorists".

Enough's been said about Obama's supposed Muslim affinity that even "Joe six-pack" can visualize the graphic image the republicans are trying to paint. Being black isn't enough to scare the voters away any more. However, an African-American, Muslim terrorist should be enough to send all the red-blooded, patriotic, apple-pie and mom loving Americans running to fetch their six-shooter. Doggoneit!

This type of emotionally manipulative rhetoric - Sarah Palin's first and only language -

"For me, the heels are on, the gloves are off." -- Sarah Palin telling a group of Republican donors in Naples, Fla.
is dangerous at a time when society is caught up in a maelstrom of political, economic, social and technological change. People feel angry, desperate and abandoned. Confused and anxious, they search out simplistic explanations and are actively searching for someone to blame...the evildoer, who is responsible for causing their pain. Nine times out of ten, a scapegoat is targeted instead, and nine times out of ten, that scapegoat is of a different race religion, sexuality etc.

While this type of rhetoric will not cause anyone to make an attempt on Obama's life, it certainly could provide the final justification. After years of listening to "evildoers", "axis of evil", "you're either with us or against us" and "we can either fight the terrorists here or over there", is there anything worse than a terrorist? Is there anything worse than a Muslim? Is there anything worse than a black man running for President of the United States?
At a rally Monday in Albuquerque, when McCain asked, "Who is the real Barack Obama?" one supporter yelled back, "Terrorist!" Across the country in Florida that day, Palin's criticism of Obama and Ayers drew resounding boos and prompted one person, according to the Washington Post, to shout out, "Kill him!"
Who is the real John McCain? I've asked myself that many times. No, not because I think he is a terrorist, far from it...however, John McCain, the "Maverick" the man we knew at the beginning of the decade disappeared completely. The John McCain running for President, although he looks the same and sounds the same, is not the same.

The Dangerous Coward

I always thought of President Bush as a fox in sheep's clothing. How could one man start a war; unravel the Constitution; increase the power of the Executive Branch; complete the Reagan mission of transforming this country from democracy to oligarchy; increase the gap between the rich and the poor beyond our wildest imagination (think hedgefund manager: $3.5 billion/year), and get elected to office twice, all the while, harboring the brains of a "sheep"? It's not possible, or is it?

Is George W. Bush a puppet? Do the real brains belong to Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and the neoconservatives who have worked incessantly since the 1970's to achieve the aforementioned that I just gave President Bush full credit? We may never know who deserves the "credit", however, most of us do know the President's lion-king, military bravado, masquerades the cowardly innards of a sheep. So, why did we elect him twice?

Picture the word "coward". The first thing that may come to mind is someone lacking an ego... someone apparently frail, timid, maybe cowering in a corner, afraid of his own shadow. What are our expectations when we see that kind of person? Pretty low, right? Therefore, if he is indeed a coward, he poses very little danger to anyone, because his chances of winning a position of power are slim to none.

However, whose to say that underneath that "cowardly" veneer may beat the heart of a hero... think Clark Kent, Dennis Kucinich. Someone's unpresumptuous and unassuming appearance just might camouflage a man who faces adversity and injustice head on, sacrificing his self-interest for the noble cause...a man who is not afraid to acknowledge his own mistakes, and realizes that leaders accept responsibility for the mistakes of their subordinates -- "the buck stops here". He then fully engages himself and stops at nothing to make amends for "his" defective judgment.

If we stop and think, we understand that the truly courageous do their very best not to bully, not to deceive, not to evade responsibility, or engage in thoughtlessly bold behavior. They do not risk the safety and lives of others unnecessarily, or condemn people to death without batting an eyelash. Yet we knowingly elect people into positions of power whose very character is defined by this kind of behavior. For ex. John Kerry, the war hero vs. George W. Bush the draft dodger... just one example of what we knew about George W. Bush beforehand and elected him anyway.

George W. Bush had big ideas, big goals, a big ego and an unflinching certainty that refused to question himself, as if he were incapable of making a mistake. Like a small child who tackles the ocean without the faintest idea of how to swim, George W. Bush tackled the world without the faintest idea of how vast, complex, how far beyond his comprehension...and most importantly, how infinitesimally small he and "We, the People" are in comparison. However, unlike the child who innocently risks only his own life, George W. Bush, without the excuse of innocence, risked the lives of millions of people without any risk to his own life or the lives of the people who matter, the "power elite".

Bob Woodward confirmed what most of us suspected, on Fresh Air, a few days ago, when he said President Bush knew we were "losing" the Iraq war but told the American people how well things were going anyway. President Bush told Mr. Woodward, 3 1/2 years into the Iraq War, "this is not something you rush," from the comfort of his plush surroundings.

In addition, President Bush did not attend critical meetings when the level of violence in Iraq was at its peak...six to eight attacks an hour, where one attack could result in a body count of fifty or twenty-five throats slit. In other words, prior to the surge, when Iraqis and Americans were dropping like flies, President Bush had "other things to do", as he told Mr. Woodward.

Now, more than ever, we cannot afford to rely on superficial and sparkly appearances. Cowards come in all shapes and sizes, however, the dangerous ones, the truly cowardly, take cowardice one step further. They conceal their lilied livers by disguising themselves in lion's skin, roaring slick slogans, and simple ideas to extraordinarily complex problems, and bash anyone who might reveal the tail between their legs.

With information literally at our fingertips, we have no excuse for not taking the time to dig beneath the surface before we decide who should lead the way.

Republican Strategy: Speak Untruth to Fools

The Republicans understand the truth doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is appealing to the masses or as Frank Dane says,

"Get all the fools on your side and you can be elected to anything."

CBC News broadcast raises questions about Trig Palin's birth, suggesting that Sarah Palin may in fact be the grandmother.

Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is under investigation for the firing of a former Alaska public safety commissioner, Walt Monhegan.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. -- Aristotle

Vetting the Antichrist.

No, I'm not saying Sarah Palin is the Antichrist. However, speculating on who the Antichrist is, is important work, since the evil one should be rearing his or her ugly head soon. So, I thought I'd post "Vetting the Antichrist" on the first Friday of every month to discuss potential candidates. Thus far, I've suggested George W. Bush and Erik "D. for Darkness" Prince, owner of Blackwater Worldwide.

Sarah Palin is my next choice, given how the shade, diabolical red flatters her so, not to mention, the negligible "vetting" process that took place before selecting her as John McCain's running mate.

The last time I "vetted" the Antichrist, I asked a couple of questions: What is the extent of this person's power and influence or potential magnitude of his evil doings? How conspicuous is the evil doing? Based on these questions, I've come up with some guidelines. Please tell me if I'm misguided as I am no expert on the principal antagonist of Christ.

  • The Antichrist can be male or female, any age, race, ethnicity or religion, and can "claim" any sexuality ( because of society's bias, an openly gay Antichrist is highly unlikely).
  • The Antichrist can belong to any political party and/or originate from anywhere in the world.
  • The Antichrist must be charismatic, must have vast influence and refrain from being conspicuously evil (his evil will manifest when he's sure he has conquered the world)
Assuming Mr. Obama failed to meet Antichrist criteria, and is not the prince of darkness, let's see if the prince may be a princess.

What do we know about Sarah Palin other than "diabolical red" becomes her?

Well, Ms. Palin is a 44-year old married, Republican female with five children and a soon to be a grandmother. She is very articulate and extremely magnetic (80% approval rating as Governor). She has the world as her stage, thus, the potential to influence billions of people. What else do we know about her?

According to Tom Hamburger, one of the authors of One Party Country:The Republican Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century , and on staff at the LA Times, she relied on the earmark system that she now opposes. As mayor of the small city of Wasilla, Alaska, population approximately 9700, Ms. Palin hired a Washington lobbyist to secure earmarks. As a candidate for governor, she backed the notorious "Bridge to nowhere", later changing her mind, claiming it as wasteful, and then using the funds for other projects, instead.

In a biting speech that epitomized style over substance, Sarah Palin, an Assembly of God church member, said the "difference between her and a pit bull was lipstick." She targeted that inner pit bull toward Obama, mocking his prior position as "community organizer" because after all, a community organizer helps low-income people, in poor urban communities stand up for their rights. Translation: That's not a real job! Those people are worthless!

She has also been described as having a fragile ego, allegedly dismissing people from jobs they've held for a substantial period of time, for offending her.

Is she the Antichrist? From what we know so far, on a scale from one to ten, ten indicating the "Beast" Ms. Palin rates a three.

Beast Ratings:
George W. Bush ******
Erik D. Prince ********
Sarah Palin ***
