Pope Francis, The Guardian, and The Sins of the Argentinian church?

Far be it from me to question the new pope's character or holiness, but one has to wonder why the Guardian amended the January 2011 article, "The sins of the Argentinian church" by Hugh O'Shaughnessy, yesterday, only one day after Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio became the New World Pope.

As you will see, the so-called "correction" appears to be rather an indemnification, or insurance to safeguard the new Pope's reputation, rather than a necessary rectification. But, to be fair, it's good to keep in mind that the complicity of Bergoglio with the junta dictatorship was denied by 1980 Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel. Although, the politicized and Orwellian  Nobel "Peace" Prize  may, instead of adding credibility, may, in fact, produce the opposite reaction, and diminish the trustworthiness of his testimony.

"Hugh O'Shaughnessy's original article, published in 2011, wrongly suggested that Argentinian journalist Horacio Verbitsky claimed that Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio connived with the Argentinian navy to hide political prisoners on an island called El Silencio during an inspection by human rights monitors in the period of military dictatorship. Although Verbitsky makes other allegations about Bergoglio's complicity in human right abuses, he does not make this claim. The original article also wrongly described El Silencio as Bergoglio's "holiday home". These references been corrected.

Today, on Democracy Now, Horacio Verbitsky claimed he "found documents in the archive of the foreign relations minister in Argentina, which, from [his] understanding, gave an end to the debate and show the double standard that Bergoglio used."

HORACIO VERBITSKY: Of course. He was accused by two Jesuit priests of having surrendered them to the military. They were a group of Jesuits that were under Bergoglio’s direction. He was the provincial superior of the order in Argentina, being very, very young. He was the younger provincial Jesuit in history; at 36 years, he was provincial. During a period of great political activity in the Jesuits’ company, he stimulated the social work of the Jesuits. But when the military coup overthrow the Isabel Perón government, he was in touch with the military that ousted this government and asked the Jesuits to stop their social work. And when they refused to do it, he stopped protecting them, and he let the military know that they were not more inside the protection of the Jesuits’ company, and they were kidnapped. And they accuse him for this deed. He denies this. He said to me that he tried to get them free, that he talked with the former dictator, Videla, and with former dictator Massera to have them freed.

And during a long period, I heard two versions: the version of the two kidnapped priests that were released after six months of torture and captivity, and the version of Bergoglio. This was an issue divisive in the human rights movement to which I belong, because the president founding of CELS, Center for Legal and Social Studies, Emilio Mignone, said that Bergoglio was a accomplice of the military, and a lawyer of the CELS, Alicia Oliveira, that was a friend of Bergoglio, tell the other part of the story, that Bergoglio helped them. This was the two—the two versions.

But during the research for one of my books, I found documents in the archive of the foreign relations minister in Argentina, which, from my understanding, gave an end to the debate and show the double standard that Bergoglio used. The first document is a note in which Bergoglio asked the ministry to—the renewal of the passport of one of these two Jesuits that, after his releasing, was living in Germany, asking that the passport was renewed without necessity of this priest coming back to Argentina. The second document is a note from the officer that received the petition recommending to his superior, the minister, the refusal of the renewal of the passport. And the third document is a note from the same officer telling that these priests have links with subversion—that was the name that the military gave to all the people involved in opposition to the government, political or armed opposition to the military—and that he was jailed in the mechanics school of the navy, and saying that this information was provided to the officer by Father Jorge Mario Bergoglio, provincial superior of the Jesuit company. This means, to my understanding, a double standard. He asked the passport given to the priest in a formal note with his signature, but under the table he said the opposite and repeated the accusations that produced the kidnapping of these priests.

AMY GOODMAN: And these priests—can you explain, Horacio, what happened to these two priests, Orlando Yorio and Francisco Jalics?

HORACIO VERBITSKY: Yes. Orlando, after his releasing, went to Rome.

AMY GOODMAN: How were they found?

HORACIO VERBITSKY: Sorry?

AMY GOODMAN: How were they found? In what condition were they? What had happened to them?

HORACIO VERBITSKY: Well, he was released—both of them were released, drugged, confused, transported by helicopter to—in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, were abandoned, asleep by drugs, in very bad condition. They were tortured. They were interrogated. One of the interrogators had externally knowings about theological questions, that induced one of them, Orlando Yorio, to think that their own provincial, Bergoglio, had been involved in this interrogatory.

AMY GOODMAN: He said that—he said that Bergoglio himself had been part of the—his own interrogation, this Jesuit priest?

HORACIO VERBITSKY: He told me that he had the impression their own provincial, Bergoglio, was present during the interrogatory, which one of the interrogators had externally knowledge of theological questions. And when released, he went to Rome. He lived seven years in Rome, then come back to Argentina. And when coming back to Argentina, he was incardinated in the Quilmes diocesis in Great Buenos Aires, where the bishop was one of the leaders of the progressive branch of the Argentine church opposite to that of Bergoglio. And Orlando Yorio denounced Bergoglio. I received his testimony when Bergoglio was elected to the archbishop of Buenos Aires. And Bergoglio—I interviewed Bergoglio also, and he denied the charges, and he told me that he had defended them.

And Orlando Yorio got me in touch with Francisco Jalics, that was living in Germany. I talked with him, and he confirmed the story, but he didn’t want to be mentioned in my piece, because he told me that he preferred to not remember this sad part of his life and to pardon. And he was for oblivion and pardon. That he was, during a lot of years, very resented against Bergoglio, but that he had decided to forgot and forget. And when I released the book with the story, one Argentine journalist working for a national agency, [inaudible], who has been a disciple of Jalics, talked with him and asked him for the story. And Jalics told him that he would not affirm, not deny the story."

Maybe I'm wrong, but, to me,  it sure sounds as if Verbitsky is asserting that former Cardinal Bergoglio was, indeed, conniving with the military powers. However, perhaps I'm missing something.  I don't know.

The Resignation of the Pope and the New World Order.

Theories abound now that the first pope, in six hundred years is resigning his office. One of these theories includes the "Prophecy of the Popes" which is attributed to St. Malachy, an Irish archbishop who was canonized a saint in 1190, In his predication, dated 1139, Malachy prophesied that there would be 112 more popes, and Benedict is supposedly the 111th pope. The Prophecy offers brief descriptions about each pope, and some of them align with reality in some way. For example, Benedict is apparently denoted as the "Glory of the Olive," and the Olivetans are affiliated with Benedictine Order. The prophecy stops at the 112th pope ending with a cryptic warning the last pope being a false prophet.

What does this have to do with a new world order? Well, regardless of your belief system, you have to admit the global impact of this event. The Holy See has existed for almost two-thousand years, whereas Vatican City came into existence in 1929, giving the Catholic Church two distinct identities, and the power to switch from one, the leader of a global religion to the other, the head of state, a state that has diplomatic relations with 170 countries. This is important because a one world government needs a one world religion, and the Vatican, over the last fifty plus years started to incorporate the concept of pantheistic monism, the belief that everything is united, and within this belief system there is no room for the individual, perfect for a collectivist New World Order. Believe it or not, this worldview that claims an alien savior, replacing Jesus Christ with a cosmic christ--think Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a mystical Dawinist--is making inroads all over the Christian map.

Remember, collectivism is that concept where individuals are considered discardable, and/or disposable...that the group is more important and the ultimate group, of course, is the state. The state is the all-important unit of society and citizens exist to serve the state.

So, this could possibly mark the end of an old order, and the beginning of a "New World Order." Pope Benedict did profess his belief in a World Political Authority, or New World Order which is ironic, indeed, since the New World Order seems to promote international God-less Common Law Courts.

The late Archbishop Paul Marcinkus, an American prelate who headed the Vatican bank at the time, was charged as an accessory to fraudulent bankruptcy in the scandal, but Italy's Constitutional Court eventually backed the Vatican in ruling that under Vatican-Italian treaties Marcinkus had immunity from Italian prosecution. Marcinkus long asserted his innocence and died in 2006..

In Samuel Zane Batten  book, “The New World Order”, published in 1919, he speaks of the “old order passes from view” and the “new world rises upon our vision.”  Under the cloak of Christianity, he speaks of a new world rising and advocates social control over all the people and all of the resources. He declares a “world patriotism” must be created and it must be a religious faith. “The only alternative is World Federation...with a world parliament, and international court, and an international police force.” In other words, he promotes a World Federation with a World Parliament, and International Court and a global police force.

In Batten’s work, some of its goals are as follows:

• Community: the danger an loss in crime and degeneracy. The determination to make community life safe, sanitary, wholesome, and moral.
• Industrial: the disappearance of class distinctions, and the solidarity of all interests in the economic process.
• National: the conception of the nation’s welfare as the supreme concern with the policy that everything shall contribute to this end, and every person must do some useful work.
• International: the creation of an international mind with a world consciousness and a world patriotism. The destruction of every arbitrary power that can separately and of its single choice disturb the peace of the world.

Keep in mind, Samuel Zane Batten’s book arrived decades before the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderberg Group. It arrived decades before H. G. Wells’ “The New World Order” and decades before Carroll Quigley’s “Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time.” Moreover, over the last hundred years, more than a few people in positions of power have spoken of this New World Order.

George H.W. Bush would campaign for a New Wolrd Order like no other president before him. He would openly discuss it in his State of the Union address.

“With few exceptions, the world now stands as one. A year-and-a-half ago, in Germany I said that our goal was a Europe whole and free. Tonight, Germany is united. George H.W. Bush would actually declare the birth of the New World Order at a commencement speech at Maxwell Air Force Base.

“And that’s why I wanted to speak to you today about the new world taking shape around us, about the prospects of a New World Order now within our reach. In the coming weeks, I’ll be talking in some detail about the possibility of a New World Order emerging after the Cold War, but today I want to discuss another aspect of that Order…You see, as the Cold War drew to an end, we saw the possibilities of a New Order in which nations work together. It refers to new ways of working with other nations to deter aggression and to achieve stability. As old threats recede, new threats emerg. The quest for the New World Order is in part a challenge to keep the dangers of disorder at bay. We must build on the successes of Desert Storm to give new shape and momentum to this New World Order. Only when this transformation is complete will we be able to take full measure of the opportunities presented by this new and involving World Order."

Prosecutors: Vatican bank defying laundering laws

The Vatican bank was famously implicated in a scandal over the collapse of the Banco Ambrosiano in the 1980s in one of Italy's largest fraud cases.

Roberto Calvi, the head of Banco Ambrosiano, was found hanging from Blackfriars Bridge in London in 1982 in circumstances that still remain mysterious.

London investigators first ruled that Calvi committed suicide, but his family pressed for further investigation. Eventually murder charges were filed against five defendants, including a major Mafia figure, and they were tried in Rome and acquitted in 2007.

Banco Ambrosiano collapsed following the disappearance of $1.3 billion in loans the bank had made to several dummy companies in Latin America. The Vatican had provided letters of credit for the loans.

While denying any wrongdoing, the Vatican bank agreed to pay $250 million to Ambrosiano's creditors.
