Did Slavery Make It Possible For Us To Be Free?

This is a very interesting conversation with David Waldstreicher about how much our American freedom depended on American slavery. Many times people, who believe one way, act in a way that goes against that belief because it is in their best interest or in the best interest their "cause". I am sure everyone, at one time or another, found him or her self, behaving in ways that oppose what he or she believe in; it is only human and we are not perfect. It is easy to overlook because we are so busy trying to live our lives and contribute to society that we are many times blind to our own actions. That is why it is so important to ask ourselves, "Do our actions reflect our vision, beliefs, and values?"

"One of the greatest moments in anybody's developing experience is when he no longer tries to hide from himself but determines to get acquainted with himself as he really is."
-- Norman Vincent Peale

Waldstreicher is author of "Runaway America: Benjamin Franklin, Slavery, and the American Revolution" and he is a professor of history at Temple University.
