Bumper Stickers

"Religion is for those who are afraid of going
to hell and spirituality is for those who have been there."

I think there is some truth to this statement, but as most bumper stickers go, this statement is a little simplistic. Religion can help a person develop spirituality and vice-versa. Some people find it harder than others to develop a spiritual life, and religion often provides a frame of reference or guide to help them along their path or in order to find God.

The problem with religion is when people are afraid to interpret Jesus' teachings for themselves, and let someone that may have a personal agenda translate Jesus' message. I think Jesus made himself pretty clear and there is no need to possess the IQ of a rocket scientist to understand Jesus' message.

When you wonder about the mystery of yourself, look to Christ, who gives you the meaning of life. When you wonder what it means to be a mature person, look to Christ, who is the fulfillness of humanity. And when you wonder about your role in the future of the world look to Christ.
