What Should We Expect From Our Leaders?

Leaders are human and make mistakes, yet we expect them to be above reproach. Repeatedly, we are disappointed by their weakness of character and lack of good judgment.

This will sound like I am making excuses for most of our Presidents and leaders who have had affairs or demonstrate some other personal weakness, but I feel we should not throw out the baby with the bath water. Leaders are human and are put in a position where they become very attractive to others, therefore putting them in situations where temptation is always right before them. We have had some great leaders in our history who have also demonstrated weakness in their character. Leadership is stressful and makes it that much harder to overcome temptation, not to mention when that temptation is so easily accessible. Of course, I am speaking of acts or behavior within the law and that do not directly affect the responsibilities that his position requires.

On the other hand, I do feel leaders should be held accountable for mistakes made that have to do with their appointed leadership, after all that is why they are in that position. We elect or appropriate a leader based on his ability to serve the institution or corporation to the best of his ability and his willingness to uphold the highest integrity of that position.
