The Parallel Internet

The Grid, is a super-fast information network capable of downloading data at 10,000 times the speed of a typical broadband connection. Imagine downloading movies in seconds, no more frozen screens, and storing all your information online instead of your computer, something they call "cloud computing". The question is will The Grid make the Internet obsolete? Or will the Web and the Grid interact or combine?

Particle physics research center CERN has designed the network, dubbed "the grid", to cope with the staggering amount of data its new particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will generate. Annual data equivalent to 56 million CDs - enough to make a stack 40 miles high all in an effort to track down nature’s most elusive particle, the Higgs boson which is supposed to be what gives matter mass.
