Mexico City Legalizes Same-sex Marriage

Today, Mexico City legalized same-sex marriage and adoption by gay couples. Legislators already approved civil unions for homosexuals in 2007, but the assembly voted 39-20, with five lawmakers abstaining, to change the civil code and allow same-sex marriages. Legislators also voted 31-24, with nine abstentions, to legalize adoption by gay couples.

Under the city's civil code, marriage is currently defined as the union of a man and a woman. The new bill changes that to a union of two people.

"..."bibliolatry" -- the practice of worshiping the Bible rather than worshiping God. It is also found in a "literal" interpretation of the Bible that focuses more on the letter of the text than on its spirit, and concentrates on passages about domination, oppression, hierarchy, elitism and exclusion rather than on the major themes of love, justice, freedom, equality and inclusion that run throughout the Bible."
Gay marriage goes way back.
