Once Again the U.S. is Fomenting War.

The United States is sending heavy weapons--mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank missiles -- from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels.  Not that this should come as any surprise considering our history of covertly facilitating upheaval, unrest and destabilization of nations, from Operation Gladio, which, controlled by the CIA and Britain’s MI6, orchestrated terrorist attacks in Western Europe, which were blamed on Communist entities to Operation Cyclone, the program to arm and finance the Mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, 1979 to 1989, to Iran-Contra where the Reagan administration used proceeds from arms sale to Iran to fund the right-wing Contras in an effort to overturn Nicaragua’s democratically elected, Sandanista government.

"The Americans have bought some of the weapons from the stockpiles of Muammar Gadaffi, the Libyan dictator killed last year. They include SA-7 missiles, which can be used to shoot down aircraft.
According to Fox News, Ambassador Chris Stevens, murdered on the anniversary of 9/11, while on a highly secretive U.S. mission in Benghazi was really there to "to negotiate a weapons transfer in an effort to get SA-7 missiles out of the hands of Libya-based extremists."

Moreover, supposedly, leaked documents from the Saudi Interior Ministry show that criminals convicted of drug trafficking, murder and rape have been given a choice to fight in Syria. Documents show that 105 Yemenis, 21 Palestinians, 212 Saudis, 96 Sudanese, 254 Syrians, 82 Jordanians, 68 Somalis, 32 Afghans, 194 Egyptians, 203 Pakistanis, 23 Iraqis, 44 Kuwaitis had taken up the offer of a death row pardon.

After arming Libyan rebels and taking out their leader, we're now arming Syrian rebels.  Why are we supporting Islamic extremists--the very people the U.S. government pegs as terrorists--to overthrow Assad?

Again, this is nothing new. The not-so-mainstream media has been reporting this for a very long time.

Video-Game-Style Warfare: Terror From the Skies.

How can you create a war on terror when you're the biggest terrorist of all? The U.S. military and the CIA are terrorizing the skies with more and more unmanned missile-armed drones in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen. To be sure, it won't be long before America is added to that list.

America’s Secret Empire of Drone Bases: Its Full Extent Revealed for the First Time

Congress Touring Israel for Free.

Despite the fact that accepting free trips from lobbyists is illegal for Congress members under US anti-graft and corruption laws, the American Israel Educational Foundation - affiliate of the largest Zionist lobby in the US: the American Israel Public Affairs Committee with its a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) organization with two donors - is sponsoring an all-expenses-paid, week-long junkets to Israel. The top congressional leaders of both parties are leading the trips.

Unlike the far more numerous nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, which have to continually “means test” that they have a wide public funding base in order for contributor donations to be tax-deductible, contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations such as AIPAC (which actively lobbies Congress, the executive, and numerous government agencies) are not tax-deductible. There are no contribution limits to 501 (c)(4) nonprofit groups. Individuals, foreign nationals, partnerships, associations, and other organizations may contribute whatever amount they like to a 501(c)(4).

81 congressional representatives - 55 Republicans and 26 Democrats - from all over the country, led by Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, are traveling to Israel this month. Most are freshmen congressmen, and the group includes half of all the freshmen Republicans voted into office in 2010.

Don't you think the $3 billion in direct aid and $3 billion in indirect aid provided to Israel each year by the US Congress would be better spent reviving the declining US economy?

French President Sarkozy's Mediterranean Union Cause of Libyan War?

The French were one of the first to say there should be a military no-fly zone over Libya. The reasons are threefold. However, I will focus on the Mediterranean Union only.

Unbeknownst to many, in 2008, French President Nicolas Sarkozy had planned to unite the 44 countries that border the Mediterranean in, what he said, was an effort to boost economic, political, and cultural ties with the EU's southern neighbors, and to reinforce the geopolitical weight of France.  In reality, his motivations, more than likely "lie elsewhere".

John Laughland of the Brussels Journal pointed out:
The plan, indeed, bears some resemblance to the “Greater Middle East” project favoured by the American neo-conservative strategists. Although the membership of the two proposed bodies is different (the Greater Middle East encompasses Arabia, Iran, Central Asian states and even Afghanistan and Pakistan) the ideology is the same: supranational and anti-national. The idea is to neutralise the Arab-Israeli conflict by “integrating” the Middle Eastern countries into a single political unit, rather as the Franco-German conflict was allegedly neutralised by the creation of the European Community. For there is nothing the neo-cons want to neutralise more than Arab nationalism.

Even more striking is the resemblance between Sarkozy’s plan and the existing Mediterranean Dialogue set up by NATO in 1994. Numerous Maghreb states have already signed partnership agreements with NATO. In other words, the Mediterranean Union would be but a political superstructure over a military organisation which already exists and which is under US leadership. Sarkozy is known to be extremely friendly to the US and Israel (the Israeli president has just been in Paris, the first head of state to be received with full honours since Sarkozy was elected last year) and his plans therefore resemble those which led to the creation of the original EEC which was also set up on the back of an existing US-led military structure (NATO was created in 1949, the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951).

The goal of Sarkozy’s Club Med is therefore not, after all, to reinforce the geopolitical weight of France, but instead to consolidate the power of NATO and the United States over the Middle East. That is why Germany, America’s senior partner in Europe, was determined to be involved – and that is why Sarkozy has agreed to it. I predict that, in due course, he will agree also to another American policy, the accession of Turkey to the EU.
So, what does this have to do with Libya? Well, it was Colonel Muammar Qadaffi's boycott of the 2008 summit launching the new "Union" in Paris, and his attack on the plan that interfered with the manifestation of Sarkozy's brainchild.  Qaddafi compared Sarkozy's "Union" to the  Roman Empire, and that it will fuel Islamist terrorism and will be regarded as "imperialism" by many in Africa and the Arab world.
"We shall have another Roman empire and imperialist design. There are imperialist maps and designs that we have already rolled up. We should not have them again." -- Col Qadaffi in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, July 9, 2008
Libya is one of only five of Africa’s 54 countries that have not been integrated into U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).

Libya's Great Man-Made River Project

Did you know about Libya's Great Man-Made River Project or "eigth wonder of the world"?

Well, unbeknownst to me, Libya has enough water to hydrate farms and people throughout the entire desert  north of Africa and most of the Middle East for the next 500 years and beyond. Not only that, they've developed a way to distribute that water in the largest water project ever undertaken, by constructing a huge network of pipelines to transport the "fossil water" - found underneath the desert - to the coastal cities, where most Libyans live.

It all began back in the 1960s, during oil exploration deep in the southern Libyan desert, when vast reservoirs of high quality water was discovered in the form of four aquifers. Under the guidance of Qadhafi, a series of scientific studies were conducted to see how to bring this water to the people, and in October of 1983, the Great Man-made River Authority was created and "invested with the responsibility of taking water from the aquifers in the south, and conveying it by the most economical and practical means for use, predominantly for irrigation, in the Libyan coastal belt".
"The Great Man-Made River, as the largest water transport project ever undertaken, has been described as the "eighth wonder of the world". It carries more than five million cubic metres of water per day across the desert to coastal areas, vastly increasing the amount of arable land. The total cost of the huge project is expected to exceed $25 billion (US).
[...]
The goal of the Libyan Arab people, embodied in the Great Man-Made River project, is to make Libya a source of agricultural abundance, capable of producing adequate food and water to supply its own needs and to share with neighboring countries. In short, the River is literally Libya's 'meal ticket' to self-sufficiency.
And, guess what? They didn't borrow one cent from International banks.
The river is a new lesson and an example in the struggle to achieve self-sufficiency, food security and true independence. No nation that depends on a foreign country to feed its people can be free. The Great River is a triumph against thirst and hunger. It is a defeat against ignorance and backwardness. It reflects the determination of Libyans to resist colonial pressure, to acquire technology, to develop, to improve their lives, and to control their own destiny in accordance with their own free will." -- Ali Baghdadi
So, now, the "humanitarian" thing to do is invade, destroy and wipe out, not only the people, but the "eighth wonder of the world"? Oh, wait, that's right, the term, humanitarian, in doublespeak, is defined as mean, inhumane, malevolent, uncharitable, unkind, unsympathetic. That makes a lot more sense.

Bombing Civilians to Save Them?

"Nearly 100 civilians have been killed so far in the airstrikes launched by major Western powers," Libyan government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim said in the capital Tripoli on Thursday. Really? I wonder how many civilians are dead, almost three days later.

What sort of "humanitarian bombing" campaign kills or injures far more than it saves?   I mean, we're told that Qadhafi forces are bombing the country's hospitals. But, where is the supporting evidence?  Why do we accept what the mainstream media reports as if they're not controlled by the same powers bombing whoever they deem,  profitable?

"This is a memo that describes how we're going to take out seven countries in five years. Starting with Iraq, Syria, then Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and finishing off, Iran." -- General Wesley Clark, March 2, 2007

Mubarak Transfers Loot to Israel? WTF?

The same man who alerted Bob Chapman of The International Forecaster to the Bernie Madoff fiasco, two weeks prior to it hitting the headlines, told Chapman that former President Hosni Mubarak  transferred his $70 million from Egypt  to Europe, where the Americans and Europeans threatened to confiscate it.  Supposedly, Mubarak  then moved his fortune to Bank Leumi in Israel.

Moreover, QE3 is coming. The price of gold will explode. And the dollar will die. Does the Fed know what it's doing? Absolutely. The Fed plans to kill the dollar. What other conclusion can you make? Bernanke should just make the announcement: "Get ready to dump your reserves, world, the dollar is on it's way out!" I'm sorry, I don't think Bernanke is stupid. I don't think any of the banksters are stupid. Far from it. They know exactly what they're doing.

What the Hell is Going On?

Larry Johnson from No Quarter asks the following questions:

"Why would we want to preposition nuclear weapons at a base conducting Middle East operations?"

"Did someone at Barksdale try to indirectly warn the American people that the Bush Administration is staging nukes for Iran?"

Operation Freedom From Iraqis

by Frank Rich

WHEN all else fails, those pious Americans who conceived and directed the Iraq war fall back on moral self-congratulation: at least we brought liberty and democracy to an oppressed people. But that last-ditch rationalization has now become America’s sorriest self-delusion in this tragedy.

However wholeheartedly we disposed of their horrific dictator, the Iraqis were always pawns on the geopolitical chessboard rather than actual people in the administration’s reckless bet to “transform” the Middle East. From “Stuff happens!” on, nearly every aspect of Washington policy in Iraq exuded contempt for the beneficiaries of our supposed munificence. Now this animus is completely out of the closet. Without Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz to kick around anymore, the war’s dead-enders are pinning the fiasco on the Iraqis themselves. Our government abhors them almost as much as the Lou Dobbs spear carriers loathe those swarming “aliens” from Mexico.

Iraqis are clamoring to get out of Iraq. Two million have fled so far and nearly two million more have been displaced within the country. (That’s a total of some 15 percent of the population.) Save the Children reported this month that Iraq’s child-survival rate is falling faster than any other nation’s. One Iraqi in eight is killed by illness or violence by the age of 5. Yet for all the words President Bush has lavished on Darfur and AIDS in Africa, there has been a deadly silence from him about what’s happening in the country he gave “God’s gift of freedom.”

It’s easy to see why. To admit that Iraqis are voting with their feet is to concede that American policy is in ruins. A “secure” Iraq is a mirage, and, worse, those who can afford to leave are the very professionals who might have helped build one. Thus the president says nothing about Iraq’s humanitarian crisis, the worst in the Middle East since 1948, much as he tried to hide the American death toll in Iraq by keeping the troops’ coffins off-camera and staying away from military funerals.

But his silence about Iraq’s mass exodus is not merely another instance of deceptive White House P.R.; it’s part of a policy with a huge human cost. The easiest way to keep the Iraqi plight out of sight, after all, is to prevent Iraqis from coming to America. And so we do, except for stray Shiites needed to remind us of purple fingers at State of the Union time or to frame the president in Rose Garden photo ops.

Since the 2003 invasion, America has given only 466 Iraqis asylum. Sweden, which was not in the coalition of the willing, plans to admit 25,000 Iraqis this year alone. Our State Department, goaded by January hearings conducted by Ted Kennedy, says it will raise the number for this year to 7,000 (a figure that, small as it is, may be more administration propaganda). A bill passed by Congress this month will add another piddling 500, all interpreters.

In reality, more than 5,000 interpreters worked for the Americans. So did tens of thousands of drivers and security guards who also, in Senator Kennedy’s phrase, have “an assassin’s bull’s-eye on their backs” because they served the occupying government and its contractors over the past four-plus years. How we feel about these Iraqis was made naked by one of the administration’s most fervent hawks, the former United Nations ambassador John Bolton, speaking to The Times Magazine this month. He claimed that the Iraqi refugee problem had “absolutely nothing to do” with Saddam’s overthrow: “Our obligation was to give them new institutions and provide security. We have fulfilled that obligation. I don’t think we have an obligation to compensate for the hardships of war.”

Actually, we haven’t fulfilled the obligation of giving them functioning institutions and security. One of the many reasons we didn’t was that L. Paul Bremer’s provisional authority staffed the Green Zone with unqualified but well-connected Republican hacks who, in some cases, were hired after they expressed their opposition to Roe v. Wade. The administration is nothing if not consistent in its employment practices. The assistant secretary in charge of refugees at the State Department now, Ellen Sauerbrey, is a twice-defeated Republican candidate for governor of Maryland with no experience in humanitarian crises but a hefty résumé in anti-abortion politics. She is to Iraqis seeking rescue what Brownie was to Katrina victims stranded in the Superdome.

Ms. Sauerbrey’s official line on Iraqi refugees, delivered to Scott Pelley of “60 Minutes” in March, is that most of them “really want to go home.” The administration excuse for keeping Iraqis out of America is national security: we have to vet every prospective immigrant for terrorist ties. But many of those with the most urgent cases for resettlement here were vetted already, when the American government and its various Halliburton subsidiaries asked them to risk their lives by hiring them in the first place. For those whose loyalties can no longer be vouched for, there is the contrasting lesson of Vietnam. Julia Taft, the official in charge of refugees in the Ford administration, reminded Mr. Pelley that 131,000 Vietnamese were resettled in America within eight months of the fall of Saigon, despite loud, Dobbs-like opposition at the time. In the past seven months, the total number of Iraqis admitted to America was 69.

The diplomat Richard Holbrooke, whose career began during the Vietnam War, told me that security worries then were addressed by a vetting process carried out in safe, preliminary asylum camps for refugees set up beyond Vietnam’s borders in Asia. But as Mr. Holbrooke also points out in the current Foreign Affairs magazine, the real forerunner to American treatment of Iraqi refugees isn’t that war in any case, but World War II. That’s when an anti-Semitic assistant secretary of state, Breckinridge Long, tirelessly obstructed the visa process to prevent Jews from obtaining sanctuary in America, not even filling the available slots under existing quotas. As many as 75,000 such refugees were turned away before the Germans cut off exit visas to Jews in late 1941, according to Howard Sachar’s “History of the Jews in America.”

Like the Jews, Iraqis are useful scapegoats. This month Mr. Bremer declared that the real culprits for his disastrous 2003 decision to cleanse Iraq of Baathist officials were unnamed Iraqi politicians who “broadened the decree’s impact far beyond our original design.” The Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, is chastising the Iraqis for being unable “to do anything they promised.”

The new White House policy, as Zbigniew Brzezinski has joked, is “blame and run.” It started to take shape just before the midterm elections last fall, when Mr. Rumsfeld wrote a memo (propitiously leaked after his defenestration) suggesting that the Iraqis might “have to pull up their socks, step up and take responsibility for their country.” By January, Mr. Bush was saying that “the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude” and wondering aloud “whether or not there is a gratitude level that’s significant enough in Iraq.” In February, one of the war’s leading neocon cheerleaders among the Beltway punditocracy lowered the boom. “Iraq is their country,” Charles Krauthammer wrote. “We midwifed their freedom. They chose civil war.” Bill O’Reilly and others now echo this cry.

The message is clear enough: These ungrateful losers deserve everything that’s coming to them. The Iraqis hear us and are returning the compliment. Whether Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is mocking American demands for timelines and benchmarks, or the Iraqi Parliament is setting its own timeline for American withdrawal even while flaunting its vacation schedule, Iraq’s nominal government is saying it’s fed up. The American-Iraqi shotgun marriage of convenience, midwifed by disastrous Bush foreign policy, has disintegrated into the marriage from hell.

While the world waits for the White House and Congress to negotiate the separation agreement, the damage to the innocent family members caught in the cross-fire is only getting worse. Despite Mr. Bush’s May 10 claim that “the number of sectarian murders has dropped substantially” since the surge began, The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the number of such murders is going up. For the Americans, the cost is no less dear. Casualty figures confirm that the past six months have been the deadliest yet for our troops.

While it seems but a dim memory now, once upon a time some Iraqis did greet the Americans as liberators. Today, in fact, it is just such Iraqis — not the local Iraqi insurgents the president conflates with Osama bin Laden’s Qaeda in Pakistan — who do want to follow us home. That we are slamming the door in their faces tells you all you need to know about the real morality beneath all the professed good intentions of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Though the war’s godfathers saw themselves as ridding the world of another Hitler, their legacy includes a humanitarian catastrophe that will need its own Raoul Wallenbergs and Oskar Schindlers if lives are to be saved.

Halliburton Moves Corporate Headquarters to Dubai

Halliburton (CEO and top executives) is moving to the United Arab Emirates - Dubai, which should come as no surprise to anyone. Halliburton also plans on selling off KBR, who provide services to the military, but that is only a small part of Halliburton's business, not to mention, Halliburton may see the end is near regarding military contracting. After all, they have already "serviced" the Iraq war and military experts are not exactly praising their work.

Federal investigators last month alleged Halliburton was responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.
Halliburton wants to focus on where it makes most of its money, selling the massive machines to make oil fields work and providing the man power to work those fields.

The United Arab Emirates has become a central hub of global business; as Jim Krane, Associated Press Writer, says, "an Arab boomtown where free-market capitalism has been paired with some of the world's most liberal tax, investment and residency laws". Most major American businesses have offices in Dubai, but Halliburton is the first to relocate its corporate leadership there. Halliburton's main reason for relocating is potential new customers...there are more opportunities in the Middle East, Africa and Asia than in the Americas.

It's such a good feeling to know so many lives have been sacrificed, all in the name of Halliburton.
